Overview
The Carli Suspension Adjustable Track Bar CS-DATB-1419 is a heavy-duty solution designed to optimize both suspension and steering for straight axle, heavy-duty trucks like your RAM 2500/3500. The track bar serves as a critical link under the front end of the vehicle tying the axle to the frame. Any wear or deflection in the bar or bushings can lead to poor handling, excessive steering input, floating, wandering, and the dreaded death wobble. These issues are even more prominent when a truck is lifted, placing additional stress on the track bar and potentially pulling the axle off-center. Carli Suspension has addressed these concerns with the DATB Track Bar, providing an adjustable, durable, and rebuildable solution to keep the front end aligned and functioning smoothly.
The Carli Adjustable Track Bar is built to be far stronger than factory options, crafted from 3/8" wall DOM construction, making it much more durable than the brackets to which it's bolted. The design features a massive 1" shank FK Bearing Chromoly RSMX14T Heim Joint that is threaded to fit securely. Unlike other manufacturers that use thinner walls and weld-in bungs, Carli's use of thicker-walled construction eliminates a potential weak point, while the larger Heim joint offers superior shear strength.
A key feature of the Carli track bar is the innovative tapered jam nut, designed with a unique mating surface similar to a lug nut with a matching machined taper in the end of the bar. This design provides 100% more friction surface area than a standard jam nut, ensuring better clamping force and a more secure assembly.
The frame-end design has seen substantial improvements as well. Carli's proprietary "CUB" joint incorporates a proven FK Bearing 7/8" Uniball at its center. Custom molded bushings are pressed on to encapsulate the Uniball then the assembly is pressed into a gusseted frame-end housing with a stainless safety washer and retained with a snap ring. The addition of custom misalignment spacers allows full fore and aft movement without binding or excessive bushing deflection.
The improvements made to this new generation of the Carli Adjustable Track Bar directly address issues that arose with previous designs, such as installation errors leading to premature wear in the frame-end bushings. The CUB bushing is preloaded during assembly, preventing premature wear from improper installation and ensuring that the track bar can be installed without issues related to torque values.
Additionally, the track bar includes a bracket for relocating the factory or Carli steering stabilizer to accommodate the extended travel of Carli suspension systems. This relocation ensures proper clearance for full suspension extension without interference between the track bar and the stabilizer, an issue that many aftermarket track bars overlook.
