Overview

Get the Hamilton Cams 07-C-178/208S Steel Camshaft to get greater power in the lower RPM range for your Dodge/Ram 5.9/6.7L Diesel powered truck. This steel camshaft is an excellent upgrade to increase all-around efficiency and will work with any size turbo. If your truck is frequently driven at high altitudes, or if you spend a lot of time driving at lower RPMs, this camshaft will greatly improve drivability.

In testing, it has been found that this camshaft moves significant air at lower engine rpms and helps the turbocharger spool earlier. As a trade off, it gives up power compared to Hamilton's larger camshafts above 2600RPM (still above a stock camshaft). If you live at high elevation, tow heavy, or are looking for the best engine function possible for everyday use, this cam will help you achieve that.

Although it works great as an efficiency cam, it is also popular with common rail engines that have larger single turbos or that have larger valves and ports. Larger turbos typically have less low rpm response as do cylinder heads with large ports and/or large valves. In these applications, it will really help get large turbos spooled much earlier.

While this camshaft is considered a drop-in replacement, it is important to check proper clearances. On 1998.5-2002 applications, you will need no more than .025″ piston protrusion and at least .038″ valve face depth with a standard gasket. 2003-2007 and 2013-2018 engines, you will need .018″ piston protrusion and at least .038″ valve face depth with a standard gasket. If you do not meet the minimum requirements for piston to valve clearance, you can still run an oversize head gasket or cut valve reliefs. Zinc additive required.  Install with the intake from a 97-99 centerline.
